High Surf Advisory

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 5 am EDT Friday...

Large swell generated by Hurricane Earl will continues to impact
the east central Florida coastline through Friday morning. Though
swell heights have already peaked earlier today... conditions will
be slow to improve through the overnight hours.

Breaking waves up to 6 to 8 feet this afternoon and evening will
continue to produce very rough and dangerous surf and numerous rip
currents. Tides up to 2 feet above normal are expected to produce
runup to the dune line ..with some breaching possible. Minor beach
erosion is possible during the next two high tide cycles.

Times of high tide through Friday morning...

Fri 9/3
Daytona Beach... ..308 am
Cape Canaveral... .248 am
Sebastian Inlet... 306 am
Fort Pierce... ... .323 am

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

All beachgoers... including strong swimmers... are advised against
entering the surf this afternoon and evening. The large pounding
breakers in the surf zone can easily knock you down and disorient
you... potentially causing injury and keeping you from safely
coming back to shore.
